This week in Android: Qualcomm’s high and Huawei’s low

Qualcomm invited techies to its annual flagship SoC announcement in Hawaii. There we learned about the Snapdragon 855, which brings a ton of improvements over its predecessor. We got improved performance and GPU, a new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and improved image processing. There’s a lot going on here.

Meanwhile in a shocking display of impoliteness (very non-Canadian), Vancouver police arrested Huawei’s chief financial officer, Wanzhou Meng. She is being held, pending extradition to the United States, to face charges of attempting to circumvent U.S. trade embargoes to Iran. Not good for anyone.

Also, we’ve published reviews of new devices, plus renders of cool new devices coming soon, and we learned that Google is retiring two of its seven messenger apps.

Here are your top stories for the week

The leak shows a triple-camera setup on the rear, with all three cameras arranged horizontally. We also see a flash and what is presumably the heart rate sensor next to the cameras.

Oh you want more megapixels? Xiaomi’s got more megapixels for you.

To quote the article directly: The Nokia 8.1 is strictly a mid-range smartphone, and a well-rounded one at that.
